Clinical Validation & Research

BraincheX Clinical Validation 1

BraincheX has been clinically validated in collaboration with the LMU Hospital Memory Clinic. The digital test battery demonstrated high diagnostic accuracy (AUC = 0.86) and a strong correlation with the CERAD neuropsychological standard (r = 0.73) — confirming its reliability for early detection of cognitive decline.

BraincheX covers all major cognitive domains — including memory, processing speed, cognitive flexibility, spatial orientation, and executive planning — providing a comprehensive digital toolset for modern dementia diagnostics.

Compared to traditional paper-based tests, BraincheX is faster (<15 min), automated, and language-independent, enabling scalable cognitive screening in both clinical and research settings.

ROC curve: BraincheX vs CERAD‑Plus (AUC = 0.86)
ROC: BraincheX vs. CERAD‑Plus (AUC = 0.86)

Comparison: CERAD‑Plus vs. BraincheX

Feature CERAD‑Plus Paper‑pencil BraincheX Fully digital
Domains assessed Memory, language, visuoconstruction, executive functions Memory (visual & verbal), processing speed, cognitive flexibility, abstraction
Test‑taking time 30–40 minutes <15 minutes
Administration Examiner‑administered Self‑administered with minimal supervision
Scoring Manual scoring; prone to interrater variability Immediate results calculation
Language dependence Language‑heavy Language‑independent (e.g., visual memory)
Setting Specialized memory clinics Scalable, broader, decentralized deployment

DARE Project — Digital Dementia Screening in Pharmacies

Funded by the Bavarian Ministry of Health and led by LMU Hospital Munich in collaboration with Bavarian State Chamber of Pharmacists, the DARE project brings digital cognitive screening into community pharmacies across Bavaria.

Using the BraincheX app, pharmacists support early detection of cognitive decline and mental health risks, linking patients to medical follow-up and care networks.

Cogscreen II — Global Validation and Health System Readiness

Cogscreen II is a joint research project between LMU Klinikum (Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy) and Medotrax GmbH, supported by the Davos Alzheimer’s Collaborative (DAC) — a global initiative launched at the World Economic Forum in 2021.

As part of DAC’s Healthcare System Preparedness Program, the project (2024–2026) develops and evaluates scalable digital solutions for early detection and accurate diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders.

BraincheX serves as the core digital cognitive testing platform within this multicenter study, involving primary care physiciancs and neurologists, conducted in collaboration with industry partners including Roche.

Recruitment has begun, marking the start of a global effort to make cognitive screening more accessible, data-driven, and clinically actionable.
